The company has announced that Google Assistant is now available on newer Samsung smart TVs in the US. AI Assistant will be available on Samsung 2020 smart TVs, including 8K and 4K QLED 2020 models, Crystal UHD 2020 TVs, Frame and Serif 2020 kits and Sero and Terrace 2020 models. According to Google, the update will be available first in the US and soon will spread to other countries.
Pressing the microphone on the TV remote control activates the Assistant, and users will be able to switch channels, open programs and adjust the volume of the TV with voice commands. TVs already have voice command settings that can be controlled with a microphone on the remote control, but you have to say that you want to use Google Assistant instead of Samsung̵7;s default Bixby Assistant. You can also manage other smart home devices that you have connected to Google Assistant. After installing the OTA update, users can turn on Assistant on their Samsung TV by going to Settings> General> Voice> Voice Assistant.
There have been hints that Samsung is considering using Google Assistant, and it was reported in the summer that companies have agreed to make the Assistant more visible on Samsung devices. It’s not entirely clear what this means for Bixby, which Samsung introduced in 2017, but the company reportedly began to gradually abandon some of Bixby’s augmented reality features.
Google has also announced that Lenovo Smart Clock Essential is now available with support for the Assistant, which we reviewed in August. The $ 49.99 watch – slightly cheaper than other voice-enabled watches – can transfer playlists and podcasts, add items to shopping lists, make calls, and manage other compatible smart devices.
