The comet will be visible in the night sky of the Northern Hemisphere throughout July, and it is the most spectacular we have seen in more than two decades.
Comet Neolius was discovered by a space telescope in late March. It is rare for it to experience a close encounter with the sun, traveling at about the same distance as Mercury.
As it approaches Neowise, it will be about 64 million miles – or about 400 times farther from the moon.

A NASA spokesman said: “The comet suddenly became visible to the careless eye.
“Comet C / 2020 F3 (Neowise) was discovered in late March and cleared when it reached its closest approach to the sun late last week, inside Mercury’s orbit.
“The interplanetary iceberg has still survived solar heat, and is now getting closer to Earth as it begins its long journey back to the outer solar system.
“When Comet Neolais became one of the few comets with the naked eye of the 21st century, the word spread quickly, and the comet was already photographed in many famous places and cities around the world.”
How to spot a comet inconspicuously
You will need to get up early (or stay up late) – in mid-July, Neolius can be seen about 80 minutes before sunrise. However, if the sky is clear, you should see it all night.
The best way to find it is to first find perhaps the most famous constellation in the sky of the Northern Hemisphere; The plow is also known as the Large Bucket. Look east on a clear night in an area with little pollution and you should be able to see it.
Neowise will be below the Plow, about 10 degrees above the horizon.
The comet passed closest to Earth on July 23, when it was below and to the right of the Plow.
On July 25, he was directly below him before continuing to move west and slightly up.

The comet is moving further and further away from Earth, so you may think you need binoculars to see it in late July.
How to photograph a comet in a new way
If you want to get a good Neowise photo, this will probably be the last week you can do it.
You will want to use long enough radiation to capture the comet at best – something in the region of 5-10 seconds.
You need to set the lens to its widest, maximum aperture, and set a relatively high ISO – somewhere between 800 and 3200.
If you do not have a very strong hand, you will need a tripod to make sure your image is clear.
Find an interesting structure or piece of scenery that you want to remove in the foreground to give your photos an extra look.
