President Trump moved to launch space power as a new military branch – but initially he would be under the auspices of the Air Force. The proposal requires an act of Congress.
This is, at least, a temporary shift – Trump said he wants a space force that is "separate but equal" from the Air Force.
Space force is often-the purpose of the administration, announced by Trump in June last year as the sixth branch of the armed forces to secure "American domination in outer space." The White House says it's about to rid the world of other nations' threats.
"Potential opponents now promote their space capabilities and actively develop ways to attack and destroy our use of space in a crisis or conflict,"
Tuesday Tuesday, Trump is expected to sign a political directive that will require the Defense Minister to draft a bill to create a separate unit of the US military "Space Forces".
The Chief of Staff of the new force would be a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and would be under the supervision of the Civil Air Force under the Space Secretary.
This would look like the Marine Corps Corps, which is part of the US Navy Department, but with a separate representation in the main warehouse.
The head of the supreme administration said that if the plan was approved by Congress, space forces could finally completely isolate themselves from the air force, as Horsley said.
"The forces would consolidate the command of the existing satellite systems of the military into a single team, communication platforms," said Jeff Brumfiel (NPR) last year. NASA Mars Rover capabilities were officially announced dead "/>
"There are no space marine infantry, there are no people flying with jet skis," says Harrison. Recently, he said that space power "is necessary to consolidate the powers and responsibilities for the space of national security in a single command chain." activities. Last September, Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson said that the creation of space forces would cost about $ 13 billion over the course of the past year.
"The costs here are extra costs," she said. "They are not just the movement of other opportunities and consolidation of them. To become a department responsible for recruitment and training and planning and programming and budgeting, and all the requirements of leadership that the department has a big task.
If the legislation goes, it will be the first time Congress has approved a new military branch since 1947, when it created the Air Force
According to Horsley, officials at the administration on Tuesday did not specify the value of future force, they said that the creation of a new headquarters would cost less 100 million dollars "Other funds come from the consolidation of existing space functions within space forces," added Horsley. "The president's budget may also offer additional money to cover the cost of enhancing military space functions."
And although the idea of space power is a support of the crowd on Tramp rallies, she meets with skepticism, or even mocking other audiences. In Washington, caricatures spread throughout the country about this idea.
And, Netflix announced that Steve Carell will play a new series of comedies about this idea. This is "Comedy in the workplace, centered around people who are instructed to create the sixth branch of the armed forces … Space forces."
