Transformer explodes at Oktoberfest celebration in Huntington Beach, injuring four people

Two firefighters and two patrons were injured Saturday night when a transformer exploded at the Oktoberfest celebration in Old World Village in Huntington Beach, prompting an immediate evacuation, authorities said.

The call came at 8:00. about the explosion of transformers at the festival, said Jeff Lopez, spokesman for the Huntington Beach Fire Department.

The injuries of four people who were injured in an underground explosion of an electrical vault were described as minor, the official said.

A video posted on social media showed a large fireball turned on a site in the 7500 block of Center Avenue. Several witnesses said they heard three explosions.

27-year-old Pat Brassel was standing by one of the festival tents, waiting for his fiance and sister when he saw a fire shoot from another tent at the entrance.

He said this prompted him to find his fiance, and minutes later after their reunion another explosion occurred.

"It just lit up the sky," he said. "Everyone was going crazy and shouting.

" The tent exploded once and then exploded again at the same location. "

More than 360 customers in the neighborhood were equipped at 9:50 p.m.," said Susan Cox, secretary of Southern California Edison. She said the utility was still trying to determine what caused the explosion.
