The oxygen supply system on the ISS in the Russian module fails, but the crew is fine

The ISS faces several ongoing air leakage problems and problems with the oxygen supply system in the Zvezda station module.

The International Space Station is all about redundancy. There is more than one ISS toilet, and there is more than one oxygen supply system that provides precious air for the crew in orbit. It̵

According to AFP, the oxygen supply system in the Russian module of the Zvezda station did not work on Wednesday. His not the only oxygen generation system on board, therefore, a crew of six – that includes three new arrivals from NASA and Roscosmos – does not threaten.

A Roscosmos spokesman told AFP that the crew would work to fix the problem this week.

The “star” is in orbit for 20 years. NASA describes it as “an early cornerstone for the station’s first human dwelling.” It contains accommodation, flight systems and life support systems.

This is the latest in a series of air-related issues on the ISS. The crew and ground dispatchers are trying to track prolonged air leak, which was recently traced to the module “Star”. It is not yet clear whether there is a link between the leak and the oxygen system.

CNET contacted NASA, but did not immediately receive a response.
