Oppo came to Mobile World Congress this year not from the phone, but from the promise. This promise is a 10x optical lossless zoom that you can get from a new system of a three-lens video camera, which the company unveiled. I tried it on my own, and although I would not say that the results are quite inescapable, such as the presence of a special camera with a true optical zoom system, this is definitely the closest that we still have come to conquer, it would seem, an insurmountable task .
The key component of the Oppo system is the setting of a periscope inside the phone: the light enters through a single object, mirrored in an array of additional objects, and then arrives. on the image sensor, which is perpendicular to the body of the phone. This corresponds to a teleobles feature in the Oppo array, which has an equivalent of 35 mm to 1
About the prototype The Oppo device, proposed for testing, camera software has been blocked to allow only simple photographs. I could not test any video, although it's nice to note that Oppo has added Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to the main camera, which has a powerful 48 megapixel resolution and telephoto feature. The greater the scale, the more necessary is OIS, so it is imperative. I also like the fact that the telephoto OIS in Oppo is done by moving the mirror to a millimeter in response to the unintentional movement of the hand from the user.
] Even with OIS on board, previewing photos through a TV shows an unpleasant cold-like effect until image. So any time I moved the camera during the test, the picture is a bit thrown. There is also a fairly long minimum distance to focus on telephoto: it is mainly intended to capture a particular architectural detail when looking at urban landscapes or focusing in a particular place in a huge landscape
. Two years ago at MWC it was a 5x periscope zoom at that time, and the phone was noticeably responsive than the average – the new prototype is better in all respects. More zoom, more features, more elegance, reduced capacity and weight, and, importantly, the planned release window. Oppo says a retail device with a 10x zoom system will be released in the second quarter of 2019.
