Clinton, Miss. – A man who killed four people during a hostage situation in Mississippi's house died at a hospital, authorities said on Sunday. A spokeswoman for the Mississippi Department of Public Security, Capt. John Pulos, said the suspect was shot dead during a 12-hour confrontation at Clinton's home.
The confrontation began at about 2:30 am. Saturday, when officers checked a home call at home, they fired, officials said. The suspect turned back and refused to leave.
Four people were found dead in the house when the confrontation was over, said Clinton's spokesman Mark Jones.
One witness described the scene outside the home as a war zone. More than 50 police cars and the SWAT team surrounded the residence as the situation unfolded, CBS Jackson affiliate WJTV reported.
The television footage showed two small children dismissed from the house during the confrontation and a squall of fire shortly before it was over. The names of the dead or the suspect have not yet been released.
