FULL SPOILERS Forward to Shazam! And more about Shazam!, Take a look at our review, our breakdown of end-stage scenes and our explanation of the great episode of the movie.
In that it seemed like a development of a plot that can be saved to continue, Shazam! totally went there and introduced the entire family of Shazam in his third act ̵
But who exactly is the Shazam family, formerly known as Captain Marvel's family, and what is their story? Let's break it …
The Shazam family is part of the long-lasting trend of "superhero families" like the seven Batman and the seven Superman, except that these guys were mostly originals : A whole squadron of superheroes who are playing very similar forces and costumes for the protagonist.
The most recognizable members of the group, besides the Great Red Cheese itself, are Captain Marvel Jr. and Mary Marvel. Their names, of course, date from the era when Shazam! still known as Captain Marvel, and was not even a DC Comics character. (Get the full story of Shazam's difficult story here.) The first one is Fawcett Comics & # 39; Whiz Comics # 25 (December 1941) and Captain Marvel Adventures # 18 (December 1942), respectively, Captain Marvel Jr. and Mary Marvel are powered versions of Freddie Freeman and Mary Batson.
Although the continuity of Captain Marvel / Shazam has been reloaded many times over the past years, Freddie's original version was given his powers to Captain Marvel after being almost deadly to a villain at They are Captain Natsy (yes). To gain access to his powers, he had to say Captain Marvel, not Shazam, and he remained a teenager even in his superform. Mary Batson, meanwhile, was a sister-twin colleague of Captain Marvel Billy Batson (and I just had to say "Shazam" to turn it into what seems a bit unnecessary).
Even in the days of Fosetta there were also Lieutenant Marvels, three boys also named Billy Batson, and also gave power to Shazam. But they all looked the same and wore the same costumes that were boring and helped create Freddie and Mary.
Then we have Uncle Marvel, a dispossessed old boy on Dadley, who claimed he was Uncle Wonderland. He was not, but he still became a part of the family, and wanted to attach Shazam's costume to the fact that it would undoubtedly be a dangerous adventure that he was not fit to meet with other members of the group. And there were other characters like Mr. Tavoi Toni (Talking Tiger) and Hoppi Marvel Bani (uh huh) who were more like the peripheral members of the family of Captain Marvel and are quite elegant in this way of the Golden Age.
/ Shazam Books were very popular in the 1940s, but the DC Comics claim resulted in the fact that they all ended in the early 1950s. The characters were actually suspended for decades after that, before the ironically sufficient ending in DC, where various reboots of their origin and history occurred over a period of years. More recently, the new 52 reboot DL has installed the version of the seven Shazam from which the film is mostly pulled out with Billy Batson and his foster brothers and sisters. Joining Billy, Freddie and Mary, Eugene, Pedro and Darla.
Of course, eagle admirers noticed that some actors playing in Shazam Family had a previous DC superheroism brush: Adam Brody and DJ Cotrona pop up as members of the family, and both actors were cast in the League of Justice movie that never happened. George Miller ("Mad Max" series) led the film, entitled "Justice League": Mortal, still in the era before DCEU, before the Warner Bros. postponed the project in 2008. Flash But now, the versions of Freddie and Pedro, working, act respectively Brody and Katrone.
We spoke with Shazam! Producer Peter Safran about the decision to cast actors in these roles.
"They did not know that they are listening to superheroes," – laughed the producer. "We did not let anyone know what these roles were. We made a false scene for each of the adult children, which basically reflected their personalities as children, as they would be as adults. Adam Brody played the basketball team, which finally gets the opportunity – the coach brings him to the game. That adult Darla, it was Darla having a test run and she's a common engine mouth. Therefore, they did not even know they were going to play superheroes. They were excited when they found out, because … they wanted to wear these clothes for a long time, and I think they were very happy that they fold their superheroes there. "
