Regis Philbin is buried at his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame



Regis Philbin was buried at the University of Notre Dame, his alma mater, on Wednesday.

A school spokesman confirmed that he was laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of a Catholic school in northern Indiana after a private service at the Sacred Heart School Basilica.

The famous TV presenter died last week at the age of 88 from heart failure.

“The Philbin family wanted to return Regis to the place he loved so much for a private funeral and burial. It happened on Wednesday, and he is now resting in peace in Notre Dame, “said school spokesman Dennis Brown in an email.

The brilliant TV presenter and personality graduated from Notre Dame in 1953 and was an avid graduate, often returning to the South Band campus for football games, pep rallies, banquets, concerts and other events, according to the South Bend tribune.

In 2001, he donated $ 2.75 million to the school to create the Philbin Studio Theater for Laboratory and Performing Arts at his DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

The school’s Rev. John Jenkins praised Philbin for his commitment to the school in a statement this week, saying “Regis has lived millions on the air for many years, often sharing a passionate love for his alma mater with viewers.”

His family told Fox News: “Regis was resting in his beloved Notre Dame after a private ceremony on Wednesday. Once again, our family would like to thank everyone for the incredible love and support you have given us and for the cheerful tributes and touching memories you shared. If you want to honor Regis, we again ask for a donation either at www.foodbanknyc.org or at the Homeless Center in South Bend (www.cfh .net). “

Pibin died of natural causes on July 24, just over a month before his 89th birthday. He retired in 2011 after a long television career, which included the morning syndicated shows “Live! With Regis and Katie Lee” 1985-2000 – co-written by Katie Lee Gifford – and “Live! With Regis and Kelly” – with Kelly Ripa – from 2001 until his resignation.
