New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gail Benson was the victim of an attempted car theft last Saturday afternoon, but was not injured, Saints spokesman Greg Benzel confirmed.
“I can confirm that an incident involving Mrs. Benson occurred in the parish of Orleans while she was in her vehicle,” Benzel said in a statement. “Although she was very shocked at the time, she was not hurt or feeling well. She wanted to express her sincere gratitude to the men and women of the New Orleans Department of Police who responded so quickly and professionally. We cannot comment further as this is an active investigation.”
The New Orleans Police Department was unable to identify Benson by name. But it has confirmed that it is investigating an attempted car theft that occurred around 2:13 p.m. local time on Oct. 10 on South Clareborn Avenue in New Orleans. And Benzel confirmed that this is the incident.
According to NOPD, the victim got into the vehicle when a truck, called a white Nissan Titan, was parked right next to her car. One of the subjects got out of the Nissan Titan and got into the victim’s vehicle. The victim ordered the subject to leave his vehicle. The subject got out of the victim’s vehicle, returned to the Nissan Titan and fled the scene.
