EASTERN LAINES, MICHIGAN (WILX) – The Ingham County Department of Health has identified 11 other large buildings in East Lansing with known exposure to COVID-19. Those now living in these facilities have been ordered to quarantine immediately for the next two weeks. A total of 39 large houses are currently under mandatory quarantine.
Two houses were previously excluded from the list during a further investigation.
Ingham County Health Officer Linda S. Vale ordered quarantine by emergency order Thursday afternoon. The new order allows you to add additional properties to the mandatory quarantine list if necessary.
“The current situation worries me deeply about the MSU and East Lansing communities,” Vale said. “In addition, our inability to contain this extremely high level of transmission will negatively affect other communities, services and businesses in the district. Ingham County has the highest risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus in the entire state of Michigan. We are really in a crisis situation, especially in East Lansing. We must do everything possible to contain the outbreak. “
As of September 1, East Lansing has seen a 315 percent increase in the total number of cases. The increase in cases is almost entirely due to the outbreak of the disease among MSU students.
The quarantined facilities include 25 fraternity and women’s societies and 14 large rented houses. Quarantine was extended for three days for one fraternity and four women’s societies due to new cases and / or revelations.
The Department of Health will constantly monitor the situation. WILX will also keep you up to date.
