Li Teng-hui, who ruled Taiwan on its path to democracy, has died at the age of 97



Li Ten-hui, who led Taiwan’s first-born president to lead the island’s transition to democracy, became its first popular leader and championed a sense of Taiwan’s identity separate from mainland China, and died Thursday. He was 97 years old.
