The state of Washington shared with the head coach Ernie Kent after the last few seasons, the school said Thursday evening.
Kent, 64, took over at Pulman in 2014 and could not finish .500 in any of his or her seasons. . Cougars ended up on the eighth in Pac-12 in the first year of Kent and never finished higher than the 10th place ever since.
Kent was a 47-77 entry this season, and Washington finished 11-21 in total and 4-14 in Pac-12.
"I met Ernie earlier and let him know I will make changes in the management of our basketball program," Athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement. "We appreciate all that Ernie did for the state of Washington, but at this time we need a new direction to intensify our fan base and bring the program to the fore. I optimistically believe that our returning athletes give us An immediate opportunity to move our program
The Cougar season ended Wednesday night in a 84-51
The state of Washington has not reached the NCAA tournament since 2008, when Tony Bennett was at the helm.
