Two teenagers in India have discovered an asteroid near Mars, which is now on its way to Earth, according to several reports.
Weidehi Vekaria and Raddika Lahani, both 14, took part in a program with space India and NASA that allowed them to view images through a telescope in Hawaii. They used special software to view images taken by the telescope.
That’s when they discovered – an asteroid called HLV2514, hung near Mars and slowly moved its orbit toward Earth.

The asteroid will not hit Earth for 1 million years, CNN reports. It will probably still be 10 times farther than the moon. So no need to panic.
Aakash Dwivedi, a senior lecturer and astronomer in space India, told CNN that the find means something, even though it is far from Earth.
“Asteroids are taken very seriously by NASA. As this asteroid changes its orbit, it became news, “Duvidi said.
Currently, the asteroid has a random name. But two teenage girls plan to call it a better name as soon as they have time to come up with something.
The girls reportedly found 20 different objects in their photos.
Interestingly, India saw two young students discover two asteroids two weeks earlier, according to Vice. This has happened despite India’s conservative approach to spending on space technology.
