HTC Vive Focus Plus gives you complete tracking on the go

New accessories have a giant trackpad, two end buttons and two pressure sensitive triggers. If you used Vive or Sony PlayStation VR controllers before, you will feel at home. During the 30-minute demonstration, I used new equipment to complete the basic procedure in the SimforHealth medical program. It's clear that this is not a classic video game, like a completely funny surgeon-simulator . The software is designed for nurses and other healthcare professionals who want to learn new technologies in a safe, managed space. This meant that I had to concentrate and respond to periodic quizzes that, oddly surprisingly, were far beyond my understanding.

For the most part, the controllers worked fine. I carefully washed my hands, pulled a pair of gloves, and took off (unexpectedly calm and rebellious) patient complaints. Later I prepared two syringes and introduced some appropriate doses. None of these actions would have been possible ̵

1; at least not with the same level of precision – with the original Vive Focus. The simulator, however, sometimes skips and improperly reads some of my presses on the buttons. I'm blaming it for software, though, and not for the main hardware, after SimforHealth admitted that it is still in the process of migrating the program from a Vive based computer. was not perfect, but he underlined the market, which inclines to HTC: corporate customers. Like Microsoft and its HoloLens 2 blend headset, the company believes that business hospitals, schools, architectural firms and others will win the most from the all-in-one solution. In a packed class, for example, it's easier to distribute standalone headsets than to connect all to a powerful gaming PC with external lighthouse sensors. However, this does not mean that Vive Focus Plus can not succeed as a consumer product. It just needs more content, preferably extras, and a sticker price that is not astronomical.

HTC solves the first problem with a developer initiative called Vive Wave. The company calls it a "unified platform" for people who want to migrate their PC applications and support a wide range of mobile VR headphones. The second challenge – the price – may be more complicated. We do not know how much Vive Focus Plus will cost, but for the original reference Vive Focus costs $ 599. So, I seriously doubt that the headset will be cheaper than the Oculus Quest when it launches in the second quarter of 2019.
