Sammy Hagar shared more details of his reconciliation with Eddie Van Halen, showing that comedian George Lopez played a key role in getting his former bandmates to talk again.
“I turned to Eddie because … George Lopez, a comedian I’ve known for a long time who is also Eddie’s dear friend, calls me and says, ‘Sammy, I need you to call Eddie. I played golf with him. He can’t do anything, “Red Rocker recalled talking to St. Louis Radio KSHE 95.
Lopez continued to tell Hagar that Eddie loved him, but was “disappointed” that he did not contact.
“I turned to all these people. I held out my hand to Alex [Van Halen]. I didn̵7;t have Eddie’s contact number, ‘said Hagar’s lawyer. “So George says, ‘Here’s his number. Call it. ‘”
When Eddie picked up the phone, it was like it used to be, and the guitarist even jokingly asked Hagar, “What took you so long?”
“It’s been just one big love festival ever since,” Red Rocker said. “It was at the beginning of the year, before COVID. So, yes, we wrote text messages and talked about Wolfe [Eddie’s son, Wolfgang] and his new record, and about us, and about what we did, and about what wonderful material. “
Earlier, Hagar said that the feeling of Van Halen’s death “was like a crashed spooky truck” Poppy “, but the singer was comforted, knowing that he reconciled with the guitarist before his death.
“It was hard. But if I hadn’t contacted Ed, and we buried the hatchet and became friends again, I’m not sure how I could have taken it,” Hagar admitted. “That would be devastating.”
