Anthony Chisholm, actor who played Berr Redding in the HBO prison drama Oz, died at the age of 77. Although no cause of death was stated immediately, his death was confirmed by The Katz.
He is best known for his periodic work on OzIn the last three seasons, Chisholm starred in 23 episodes of 2001-2003. His other television credits include Law and order: IED,, High content,, Random acts of flies,, Hack and last year’s drama Hulu Wu Tang: The American Saga.
Chisholm was a prolific stage veteran who often collaborated with playwright August Wilson. He starred as Wolf in Wilson̵7;s original film There are two trains, which debuted in the Yale repertoire in 1990 and on Broadway in 1992. He also starred in Wilson’s film Gitney and first launches The pearl of the ocean and Radio Golf, the latest of which earned Chisholm a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play in 2007.
In 2017, he returned to Broadway for a revival Gitney, who eventually won “Tony” for the best revival of the play. He continued to perform in the national tour of the production, which lasted from September 2019 to February 2020.
Other notable credits include iconic classics Putni Swap, Jonathan Demme Beloved and Spike Lee Chi-Rak.
The actor is survived by his son Alexander Chisholm, his daughter Che Chesholm and her husband, as well as two grandchildren.
