A wood takeaway from 6-4 win over Marlins, including a deGrom's 14-K masterpiece

The Marlins made a late comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but the Mets finished them off to sweep their first series of 2019 on Wednesday night. >> Box score

Five things to know about Tuesday's game

1) Jacob deGrom asserted his dominance once more and collected 14 career-high strikeouts in the process. Everything was working for deGrom in this one, as he mixed things up each time he went through the Marlins lineup. He allowed only two hits and walked one batter over his seven-inning, 114-pitch outing. DeGrom also helped himself out with a solo homer in the top of the third as well. The 2018 Cy Young winner just does it all.

2) Pete Alonso stayed hot at the dish, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double that was inches away from being his second home run of his career in the top of the third inning. Right now, the rookie first baseman has a .409 average heading to his introduction to the Mets fan at Citi Field.

3) Another than Alonso, Amed Rosario (1

-for-3, BB) and Robinson Cano (1-for-5) had RBI extra-base hits Rosario's kickstarted the Mets' scoring as he smashed an RBI triple to the right center in the top of the second. And in the vintage Cano fashion, the veteran lefty went the other way in the top of the seventh for an RBI double to move the score to 4-0.

4) After deGrom left, the Mets' bullpen made things interesting. Luis Avilan had an easy eighth inning, but he allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in the ninth. Robert Gsellman could not shut down the relief of Avilan, either, giving up one run on two hits. Edwin Diaz needed to come out of the pen to shut it down for the final out.

5) It was another rough day for Brandon Nimmo at the plate finishing the night 0-for-4 with a walk and run scored. He returns to Flushing with a .100 average so far, and he will hope the home field will turn things around.
