A man is accused of striking his injured wife with two cars before striking her with a machete in a deadly assault in the Bronx on Thursday morning, according to New York police.
Police responded to a report of assault by finding 58-year-old Noelia Mateo unconscious with multiple stab wounds around 7am on Ellsworth Avenue. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to a report from the New York City Police Department.
NBC New York, citing law enforcement officials familiar with the matter, reported that the attacker knocked the woman into his car and then got out of that vehicle, into the woman's car and ran into her again before attacking her machete. The NYPD confirmed these details and said the couple had been removed.
Victor Dikhristina told NBC New York that he saw the attack and initially thought the man was trying to help the woman who was under the car, but then the man got into the car and ran into her.
After he saw a man stabbed a machete woman who, he said, was about 20 inches long, "I ran over and I yelled at him trying to stop him." [1
There were no arrests, NIPD said Thursday night.
Police said the attack remains under investigation.
