PARIS – Two French pilots who carried out a mysterious flight from the Dominican Republic in 2015 will be prosecuted in southern France accused of international cocaine trade. Beginning of the trial on Monday in Aix-en-Provence.
The circumstances of their escape to avoid a 20-year-old in the Dominican Republic, with the help of the French extreme Right Member of the European Parliament and the well-known aviation expert, remain unclear. French media reports that they sailed to the French Caribbean island of Saint-Martin.
The French government denied any involvement in the flight.
Two men were originally arrested in 2013 at the airport of the Dominican Republic. The authorities said that the plane on which they were piloting carried 26 cartilage cocaine. They denied the offense.
